Tools of the trade

  • Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • Milk frother
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Your favourite glass

Ingredients

  • 2 shots of espresso or 60ml strong coffee
  • Oat milk (as much as you need to top up the glass)
  • 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes

Recipe

  1. Get Brewing: Start by preparing your coffee. If you’re using whole beans, now is the time to grind them, if you’re already using ground coffee or espresso pods, get brewing.
  2. Start the Syrup: In the saucepan, add brown sugar, cinnamon and water. Heat the mix over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and the syrup thickens. This normally takes a few minutes.
  3. Let it cool: Once the desired consistency, remove the pan from the heat and let it cool down for a few more minutes.
  4. Mix it up: Now is the time to combine the coffee and syrup. Start by pouring the coffee into a glass and slowly adding the syrup. Make sure to stir it in well so the syrup is completely dissolved in the coffee.
  5. Froth the milk: Use a milk frother or blender to froth your oat milk.
  6. Layer up your latte: Fill your go-to glass with ice cubes and then pour in the frothed oat milk before slowly adding the coffee and syrup mixture over the milk, allowing it to blend.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to use oat milk?
Absolutely not! We love using oat milk as it adds a creamy texture and sweetness that tastes amazing with the brown sugar syrup, but you can substitute it with any milk of your choice.
Almond, soy, and coconut milk are all great alternatives, however, it’s important to remember that these different milks will affect the flavour and texture of your latte.

2. Can I make this oat latte recipe less sweet?
If you want to cut back on the sweetness of this iced brown sugar cinnamon oat latte, just reduce the amount of sugar in the syrup. Start off with 1 tablespoon and then you can adjust it to your own liking – you can also experiment with different sugar substitutes or honey for a different flavour.

3. Do I need an espresso machine to make this?
Nope! If you don’t have an espresso machine, no problem. As we’ve suggested, you can just use fresh strong-brewed coffee instead. Whether you’re using a French press, V60 or Moka pot, it really doesn’t matter! We just recommend using 60ml of brewed coffee for your latte but you can experiment and find out what tastes the best for you.
